The Vancouver woman accused of drowning her 2-year-old daughter and cutting the throat of her teenage daughter appeared Tuesday in Clatsop County court in Astoria, Ore.

Jessica Smith is charged with aggravated murder and attempted aggravated murder in an incident that occurred this summer in a Cannon Beach hotel room.

Authorities have said Smith checked into the Surf Sand Resort on July 29 with her two daughters in tow. Three days later, a cleaning crew found the drowned body of the 2-year-old girl. The still-breathing teenager was covered in blood, with her throat cut.

Smith has pleaded not guilty to the charges. Her trial is set to begin July 7, but that date is likely to be pushed back, The Oregonian reported.
