“The Sweet Taste of Success: The Seely Farms Story” is the topic of Washington State University Vancouver’s fall MBA Stakeholder Speaker Series.

Featuring WSU alumnus Mike Seely, owner of Seely Farms, the free, public presentation begins at 7 p.m. Oct. 20 in the Undergraduate Building, Room 1, 14204 N.E. Salmon Creek Ave. Parking is free after 7 p.m.

Seely and his family produce mint products sold in more than 600 stores nationwide. Learn how this third-generation mint farmer revolutionized his business by thinking outside the typical farm business structure and developing his own mint confections.

Seely was a full-time engineer and part-time mint farmer until he and his wife Candy threw themselves into the farm as their only means of support in 2008. He earned his MBA from WSU Vancouver in 2009 and says he applied a lot of what he learned in the program to change and grow his business.

Previously, Seely Farms sold mint leaves to companies that produced mint-flavored products, but as the U.S. mint industry declined, growers were forced out. Today, Seely Farms uses a portion of its crop to flavor its own mint confections, teas and candy canes.
