Vancouver police are trying to find the rightful owners of gemstones that were recently recovered in the Fircrest neighborhood.

Detectives talked to a male subject near Motel 6, 221 N.E. Chkalov Drive, who was arrested after allegedly providing a false name. The subject, whose name was not released, also had a warrant for his arrest. At the time, he was in possession of several loose gemstones, including opal and tanzanite. He didn’t have a good explanation for where he got them or why he had the gems, which appeared to be packaged for sale. Police seized the gems as evidence and look to return them to their rightful owner.

Anyone with information on a recent gem theft or who looks to claim ownership should contact detectives Erik Jennings at 360-487-7505 or Dustin Nicholson at 360-487-7533.

Those claiming ownership will have to describe specifically how the gems were packaged, how many gems were stolen and what kind, their size or karat, any specific labels on the packaging, along with any other identifying information.
