Three things to watch this week

NO. 1: PIVOTAL MATCHUP FOR THUNDER, STORM — Mountain View has opened the season 1-4, yet the Thunder can turn their season around with a big win tonight at Kiggins Bowl against Skyview. The four teams that Mountain View has last to are a combined 18-2 on the season. If the Thunder beat Skyview, they will position themselves to possibly secure the 4A GSHL’s No. 3 berth to the playoffs.

NO. 2: QUIET NIGHT AT MCKENZIE STADIUM — On most Friday nights in the fall, McKenzie Stadium is the place to be for high school football, with a game kicking off at 5 p.m. and football continuing until as late at 11 p.m. But not this week. In a scheduling rarity, Union will face Heritage at 7 p.m., the only game of the night at McKenzie Stadium. Evergreen Public School’s other two football teams are away. Evergreen is on the road at Yelm, and Mountain View will play Skyview at Kiggins Bowl.

NO. 3: THE BEGINNING AND THE END — Columbia River hosts Fort Vancouver in a Class 3A Greater St. Helens League game tonight. It will be River’s league opener, while it is the final league game of the season for the Trappers.
