Prep roundup: Mountain View, Hudson’s Bay wrap up league tennis titles

Mountain View and Hudson’s Bay wrapped up Greater St. Helens League boys tennis titles with victories on Monday.

Mountain View defeated Heritage 5-1 to improve to 11-0 in the 4A GSHL, 13-0 overall.

Josh Kim won at No. 3 singles for the Thunder, coming from a set down to defeat Zach Bocanegra 4-6, 7-5, 6-0.

Hudson’s Bay clinched its first league title in “at least 10 years,” according to coach Jim Sevall. “It was a long time coming.”

The 4-2 win over Mark Morris on Monday won the 2A GSHL title for the Eagles, their first season in the 2A league.

Bay’s big wins came at No. 2 singles by Paul Copeland, a 7-5, 6-3 victory over George Johnson, and a comeback win at No. 1 doubles by Thanh Vo and Dat Vo, 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-3 over Alex Wisdom and Mike Pelton.

District golf — Fort Vancouver’s Spencer Tibbits shot a 5-under-par 67 at Tri-Mountain to take a two-shot lead at the Class 3A boys golf district tournament at Tri-Mountain.

Tibbits, the defending 3A state champion, led teammate Trent Standard, who shot a 69. Columbia River’s Spencer Long (71) and Jose Beuselinck (73) rounded out the top four.

In the 4A district tournament, Union’s Ben Gruher shot a 2-under-par 70 to take a three-stroke lead.

Gruher led a trio of the Titans atop the leaderboard as Gruher was followed by Eddie Abellar and Cason Boyce, both at 73.

A trio of Camas Papermakers came in at 74 — Brian Humphreys, Brett Ball and Levi Holscher.

The both tournaments conclude today.
