Weather Eye: Mix of storms and showers heading Clark County’s way

Let the rains begin! Or something like that, I suppose. Expect stormy weather today and showers through Wednesday. The timing of the storms will be about every two days apart as it looks right now. That means some short dry periods between weather systems.

Even northern California will get in on the action and receive some much needed precipitation.

Warm southerly winds between 20 and 50 mph ahead of the front pushed afternoon temperatures into the 70s around much of western Washington on Monday. Rain began along the coast in the afternoon and was heading our way in earnest. I would expect local rainfall amounts to be about an inch over the next couple of days.

There’s still no widespread frost on the horizon. We are getting close to the average first frost date in many of the outlying areas, which is the middle of the month.

The warm sunny weather Monday also brought out the stink bugs once again. I’ll be glad when we get a freeze. Those critters can fly in the house without being seen, I swear.

I hear from friends that this autumn weather has been good for mushrooms, with just the right amount of moisture and perfect temperatures. And baseball and soccer teams got in some games the past few days without getting too wet.

Over the last several days, you may have heard about some heavy rain beginning on Monday, or at least by Tuesday. The onset of a series of storms is always difficult to pin down several days ahead of the front due to timing issues. Today’s cold front looked quite threatening on the satellite photo Monday, but as it reached the coastline, it slowed down, with much of the moisture skirting along the front toward Vancouver Island and the northwest Washington Coast. Forks, as of Monday at 5 p.m., had recorded more than an inch of rain.

Our friends in the other Vancouver to our north spent their Thanksgiving Day watching the rain come down.
