Heather Deulen had a goal and an assist, and goalkeeper Katzxia Moua came up big as Washougal beat visiting Ridgefield 2-1 in a Class 2A Greater St. Helens League girls soccer match on Thursday.

It was the first loss of the season for the Spudders. Washougal moved into third place in the league.

Deulen’s drop pass set up Katie Desmone’s first-half goal, a shot from outside the penalty area. In the second half, Deulen put the Panthers ahead 2-0 with another shot from outside the 18-yard box.

Moua, who had seven saves in the match, then stopped a Ridgefield penalty kick to keep the lead at two goals for Washougal (8-3-1, 6-3 GSHL).

Jordyn Voyles scored for Ridgefield (10-1, 8-1 GSHL).

Washougal coach Harrison Martin said his team concentrated on limiting space in the midfield for Ridgefield.

“They’re a great team, so a win over (Ridgefield) is big,” Martin said.
