LONG BEACH — Seven nights of razor clam digging on the Long Beach Peninsula begin Wednesday.

The state Department of Fish and Wildlife announced on Friday that marine toxin tests indicate the clams are safe to eat.

“Most diggers were able to harvest their 15-clam daily limit fairly easily during the season opener earlier this month, except for one evening when some rough weather blew in,” said Dan Ayres, coastal shellfish manager. “Some diggers noticed smaller clams at a few beaches, but those clams are growing quickly.”

?Low tides for the seven nights include: Wednesday; 6:31 p.m., 0.3 feet; Thursday; 7:07 p.m., -0.1 feet; Friday; 7:44 p.m., -0.4 feet; Oct. 25, 8:22 p.m., -0.6 feet; Oct. 26, 9:03 p.m., -0.6 feet; Oct. 27, 9:47 p.m., -0.4 feet; Oct. 28, 10:36 p.m., -0.2 feet.

Digging typically is best one to two hours before low tide.

Diggers are required to keep the first 15 clams they dig under state law. Each digger’s clams must be kept in a separate container.

All diggers age 15 or older must have an applicable 2014-15 fishing license to harvest razor clams on any beach. Licenses, ranging from a three-day razor clam license to an annual combination fishing license, are available on WDFW’s website at https://fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov and from license vendors around the state.

The next round of digs at Long Beach tentatively is scheduled for Nov. 4 through 11.
