OK, before we go too far let’s review some rainfall from September, as promised, from your friends and neighbors: Murphy Dennis, near Clark County Rifles, 2.20 inches; Claudia Chiasson, Carson, 0.73 inch; Tyler Mode, Battle Ground, 1.55 inch; Judy Darke, Felida, 1.22 inch; Irv St. Germain, Prune Hill, 1.42 inch; Bob Starr, Cougar, 2.86 inches; Phil Delany, Dole Valley, 2.00 inches; Robin Ruzek, Lake Shore, 1.18 inch; Pete Conrad near Tukes Mountain, 1.38 inch; Merle Moore, 2 miles west of Yacolt, 2.00 inches; Dave Campbell, 1 mile west of Heisson, 1.51 inch; Tyler Mode from his Minnehaha station, 0.97 inch; Jim Knoll, Five Corners, 1.39 inch; Dan Hein, Camas, 1.58 inch; Bill Sobolewski, Livingston Mountain, 1.86 inch; and Ellen Smart, Ridgefield, 1.30 inch.

Phil Delany commented that in September 2013 he recorded 14.8 inches, compared to the 2 inches last month. Boy, that is quite a difference in one year. Irv St. Germain predicted he would get about 4 inches this month, 3.98 inches to be exact. We’ll see next month how close he comes to that. Murphy Dennis said he had to coax a fire in the fireplace the other night to take the chill off. “I can relax now a bit now we finally received a soaking rain.” Yes, fire danger has dropped to the low category, finally.

Weather observer Pete Conrad told me he had to get the long-sleeved flannel shirts out that first week of October. He also noted he hasn’t seen any wooly bear caterpillars lately. “Maybe they know something that we humans don’t know?”

Merle Moore mentioned, “I really love the transition to fall. Hope you have a happy, and maybe even spooky, October!”

So, a bonus day today; get outside. Rain Monday, and then off and on all week. Snow levels may not be as low as earlier thought but snow will fall above Timberline for sure. It was nice seeing a white cap on both St. Helens and Hood on Friday.
