In April 2010, Clark County Public Health advised parents to not let children go to the Vancouver Rifle and Pistol Club until it improved its ventilation and cleaning.
Eight young members had registered lead levels in their blood above 10 micrograms per deciliter. One of the eight children had a level just above 20.
According to the CDC, lead can cause organ damage and other problems at levels as low as 10 micrograms.
The Orchards-area shooting club made significant improvements to address concerns about lead exposure, county public health officer Dr. Alan Melnick said in February 2011.
