GRESHAM, Ore. — The family of a 10-year-old girl who was inside a Gresham apartment when she was hit by a stray bullet says she was wounded in an ankle.

The family told KPTV she had surgery to remove the bullet and will be on crutches and in a cast while she recovers.

The girl was at a friend’s home Saturday morning when a man outside the Rain Tree complex fired three to eight shots that struck several apartments. The girls were in an upstairs bedroom when the bullet came through the wall.

Police say there was no connection between the girl and the shooter. He was wearing dark clothing and was last seen running away.
