Weather Eye: Expect lots of clouds this weekend

Clouds and more clouds. That is the thrust of this week’s weather scene. After a weak weather system went through on Monday, we’ll see a brief break today, with maybe some sunshine before those clouds come back and deposit more rain on us.

As of early Monday, we were still running more than an inch below average for the month in the rainfall department. I would guess, if forecast models are correct, we may just catch up by the end of the week.

If the mild weather were to stay in place the remainder of the month, we would most likely end up with the warmest October on record. As of Monday, we were nearly six degrees above average. And what about that 75 degree day on Sunday? Nice, huh? That could very well be the last 70 degree day of the year. However, we may have a sunny day coming Sunday but whether it jumps to 70 is just a guess.

A cooler air mass will be approaching by the end of the week. Maybe we’ll see our first frost in the outlying areas some time next week between weather systems. The upper ski areas may actually build up a little snowpack. On Halloween, I would predict at this point a dry and chilly evening and a spooky one at that.

Still loads of leaves on the trees and some nice color but not as brilliant compared to last year. I actually heard some frogs croaking Sunday evening in anticipation of the incoming rain.

So the forecast this week is for some good autumn rains beginning late today and winds at the coast. Rainfall amounts are forecast to be in the 3 to 6 inch range for the Coastal and Cascade mountains. We will have an inch or more here locally. Watch out for puddles in the roadways as storm drains clog with leaves.

I will chat with you on Thursday. Keep dry!
