Washougal — A 90-year-old World War II-era veteran and dedicated Meals on Wheels People volunteer in Washougal left on a special trip Monday to visit monuments and other sites in Washington, D.C. Lloyd Knecht was joined by fellow veterans on the Journey of Heroes trip, a program created by Wish of a Lifetime and the Vital Life Foundation to honor senior service members by giving them a chance to visit the capital. Knecht enlisted in the Army in 1943 and served as a medical corpsman in India and China. “It will be incredibly meaningful to me,” Knecht said in a press release.
