State to stock more trout in lakes

OLYMPIA — Washington will stock 47 lakes with extra trout this fall and will double the catch limit to 10 fish daily in 19 of the lakes.

The extra fish are going into lakes primarily in the Puget Sound area.

A legal settlement prevented the Department of Fish and Wildlife from releasing early winter hatchery steelhead in most Puget Sound rivers in 2014.

So, more than 300,000 of those steelhead were held during the summer and released to a catchable size for Puget Sound lakes this fall.

A list of lakes to be stocked, those lakes offering the bonus bag limit, and the department’s recently updated stocking plan is available for viewing at http://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/fall-into-fishing/.

None of the lakes are in Southwest Washington.

However, Battle Ground Lake, Rowland Lake, Kress Lake, Klineline Pond and Fort Borst Park Pond each will get 2,000 trout for Black Friday fishing on Nov. 28.
