“American Horror Story” creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuck are diving back into the anthology game, this time for Fox.
The writer-producers are joining “Glee” writer and director Ian Brennan for “Scream Queens,” a comedy-horror anthology series that is set to premiere on the network in fall 2015.
Like “American Horror Story,” “Scream Queens” will tell a different story each season but will always feature two female leads.
The first season, with 15 one-hour episodes, is to be set on a college campus where a series of murders has taken place.
Murphy said, “We hope to create a whole new genre — comedy-horror — and the idea is for every season to revolve around two female leads. We’ve already begun a nationwide search for those women, as well as 10 other supporting roles.”
Continuing the policy set out by their predecessor, Kevin Reilly, Fox Television Group co-Chairmen and CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman bypassed the traditional pilot and ordered the show direct to series.
In a statement, the network heads said, “We loved every element of the pitch for this show – the genre-bending concept, which blends true horror with big comedic moments; the diverse and unforgettable characters; and reuniting the phenomenal creative team that delivered ‘Glee.’ “
