Save the Date: Farmers market, music and drama

Give a fond farewell to the Vancouver Farmers Market, which draws to a close Sunday. Mushrooms, winter squash, fresh bread and fall-colored flowers can still be found near the Capt. George Vancouver statue from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday along Sixth and Esther streets, downtown Vancouver; 360-737-8298 or vancouverfarmersmarket.com. The holiday market will return for a brief stay, Nov. 29 and 30, featuring artisans, music and Santa at the Hilton Vancouver Washington, 301 W. Eighth St., Vancouver.

• To open its 10th season, Southwest Washington Wind Symphony will perform a bit of “Imagination and Whimsy.” The ensemble is made up primarily of local music educators. Hockinson and Washougal high school jazz bands will be playing with trumpet and trombone player Mic Gillette, who is best known for his work with Santana and Tower of Power. • Keeping with the music theme, this week’s historic lecture asks: what were people listening to at Fort Vancouver in the 19th century? Ethnomusicologist Joe Galván will discuss the variety of musical influences during “New Perspectives on Music of the Pacific Northwest” at 6 p.m. Oct. 30 at Pearson Air Museum, 1115 E.
