Prep roundup: La Center beats King’s Way Christian to take Trico soccer title

Kate Burgess scored La Center’s goal, and Shelby Vermuelen had two saves in goal to preserve the shutout as La Center beat King’s Way Christian 1-0 to wrap up the 1A Trico League regular-season title.

As league champion, La Center has clinched a berth to the 1A state tournament. The Wildcats will advance to the semifinals of the district tournament next week at Kalama.

King’s Way Christian will host a first-round, loser-out game in district on Tuesday.

Stars of the day

• Katie Hurst, Mountain View girls soccer, assisted on all three goals in the Thunder’s shutout win over Heritage.

• Jossilyn Blackman, Battle Ground volleyball, and Lauren Harris, Camas volleyball. Blackman had eight blocks in the Tigers’ win over Union. Harris had 14 kills in the Papermakers’ win over Evergreen. Battle Ground and Camas will share the Class 4A Greater St. Helens League title, both finishing 11-1.

• Rikki Hadaller, Woodland volleyball, was 12 for 12 serving and also had 13 digs in a win over Hudson’s Bay. Woodland tied R.A. Long for second place in the 2A GSHL.

• Megan McDaid-O’Neill, Seton Catholic soccer, scored three goals in a win over Stevenson.

• Madi Harter, Ridgefield volleyball, had 10 kills, 6 blocks, and four aces as Ridgefield completed an undefeated 2A GSHL season with a four-set win over Hockinson.

• Megan Bloom, Columbia River girls soccer, scored three goals as the Chieftains wrapped up an unbeaten 3A Greater St. Helens League season with a 4-0 win over Kelso.
