A Vancouver man appeared in Clark County Superior Court on Wednesday in connection with a July 7 robbery at a Hazel Dell Chinese food restaurant.

Kristopher J. Mann, 25, of La Center is accused of entering the Canton Chinese Buffet, 1118 N.E. 78th St., at about 4:30 p.m. and telling a cashier that he had a gun.

He apparently simulated holding a handgun inside his pocket, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

He gave the cashier a note demanding money, and after receiving it, he fled with about $900 in cash, according to court documents.

Judge David Gregerson held Mann on Wednesday in lieu of $100,000 bail and appointed Vancouver attorney Jeff Staples to defend him. He is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 17 on charges of first-degree robbery and second-degree theft.

The robbery was captured on surveillance video, which allowed sheriff’s detectives to release a photo of the suspect to the public the day after the robbery.

An associate of Mann told authorities that Mann admitted to robbing the restaurant, according to court documents. A witness to the robbery also identified Mann as the suspect during a photo lineup, court documents say.

Court records indicate Mann is a heroin addict who has mental health problems and a criminal history, including a burglary conviction in Clark County in 2012.
