Members of the International Association of Firefighters Local 452 are in the midst of their two-day “Fill the Boot” campaign to raise money to fight muscular dystrophy.

On Thursday, Vancouver firefighter Kevin Hart was among a group of off-duty fire service employees soliciting donations at Northeast Highway 99 and Northeast 78th Street. Firefighters plan to return to the Hazel Dell intersection from noon to 6 p.m. Friday.

Last year, the local’s members raised $15,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Hart said that received a $100 donation from a motorist Thursday. Nationally, IAFF union members have supported muscular dystrophy research and assistance as a charitable cause for 60 years.

Last year, U.S. firefighters raised more than $28 million, according to the MDA’s website.
