Non-league football: Battle Ground 38, Spanaway Lake 29

Gunner Talkington totaled 492 yards of offense and Chris Waters scored four touchdowns, leading Battle Ground to a big road win.

Talkington threw for 372 yards and rushed for 120 yards. Waters caught 10 passes for 172 yards and four TD receptions.

“It was a good experience. First varsity game that I really made an impact,” Waters said. “I owe it all to my quarterback, dropping dimes all day.”

After a scoreless first quarter, the two teams combined for five second-quarter touchdowns.

Talkington and Waters connected on touchdown passes of 26, 5, and 34 yards.

“This week, our practices were better. We worked hard, Talkington said. “My line gave me protection to throw the ball.”

Spanaway Lake cut Battle Ground’s lead to two points at 31-29 in the fourth quarter.

No panic for the Tigers, though.

“We didn’t say anything,” Talkington said.

“Another day at the office,” Waters said.

Then the two teamed up for another TD, this time from 5 yards out.

Bailey Buckner scored Battle Ground’s rushing touchdown.
