Letter: Not even a gleam to show off city

The city of Vancouver has not sparkled or gleamed for some time now. This so-called city manager, Eric Holmes, who is supposed to be so great that he gets these big whopping raises, must have his eyeball facing inward not to see the rundown look of the city. This reminds me of when President George Bush told Michael Brown, then-FEMA director who was in charge of the Katrina cleanup, “Brownie, you’re doing a heck of a job.”

Our taxes have not gone down, so where is the city putting all of its money? Is not the city’s appearance a high priority? People who visit our area should see that we care about how we maintain our surroundings. You can put all you want in the way of funding on paper for the city council to make it look good, but robbing from Peter to pay Paul does not get the job done.
