Northwest Pipe Co. says Michelle Galanter Applebaum has been elected to the company’s board of directors. Applebaum, who has more than 30 years of experience in capital markets, also was appointed to the board’s audit committee, the Vancouver-based manufacturer of steel pipe said in a filing Monday with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

At Salomon Brothers, Applebaum “was part of a team that built and ran the firm’s steel investment bank, which was a top adviser to the sector for nearly a decade,” the company said in its SEC filing. Applebaum recently retired “and is currently teaching finance part time at Lake Forest College in Chicago.”

As a board member, Applebaum will receive an “annual retainer and an annual stock grant plus fees for each board meeting attended and for each meeting of a committee of the board attended,” the company said. Applebaum also “has been granted an award of $55,000, payable in shares of company common stock.”
