BATON ROUGE, La. — Baton Rouge police say a former employee of the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center has been arrested in Tacoma, almost a month after he had been accused of using company credit cards for personal expenses.

Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, a Baton Rouge police spokesman, says the center’s former director of facilities, 49-year-old Larry Butler, admitted in emails to the center’s human resources department that he spent more than $16,000 of the center’s money on his own purchases. McKneely said Butler made no efforts to repay the center.

Police tell The Advocate the purchases came to light only after Butler told the center he had another job, and was then fired.

Butler was arrested Monday.
