Parked oil trains block access to Everett beach

EVERETT — Long trains usually hauling coal or oil have been parked for hours on a spur near the Port of Everett, blocking what has been easy access to Pigeon Creek Beach.

BNSF Railway blocked a trail in June at an underpass because the city doesn’t have an easement. Beach visitors now have to use an access a half-mile away.

Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson told The Daily Herald the city is looking at options for reopening the beach trail.

BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas says there were numerous reports of trespassers crossing through or under parked trains.
