Apple hastily pulled an update to its brand-new iOS 8 operating system hours after releasing it Wednesday, after many users complained of disabled cellphone service and inoperable Touch ID fingerprint recognition.

The update, labeled iOS 8.0.1, was supposed to fix a number of bugs in the new software, launched last week, including one with Apple’s HealthKit feature.

But soon after the update became available Wednesday morning, iPhone users took to social media to complain that their cellphone service wasn’t working.

“I enjoy how the iOS 8.0.1 update just turned my iPhone into an iPod Touch. Who needs cellular coverage on a cell phone?” tweeted Brad Vedders.

Some users reported that only new iPhone 6 models, which debuted last week, were being affected.

An Apple spokesman confirmed the company has pulled the 8.0.1. update due to “an issue,” and said company officials are “actively investigating” reports of problems. Apple gave no timeline for when there would be a fix, or instructions for customers who have already updated and are experiencing problems.

The issues were prompting some users to find ways to roll back their devices to iOS 8 until Apple comes up with a fix.

These are not the first complaints Apple has seen since launching the iPhone 6 and iOS 8 last week.

Users have said the new large, flatter phones are somewhat malleable, and can bend in their pockets.

Others have also complained of slower Wi-Fi and shortened battery life after a switch to iOS 8.
