The state Legislature is finally doing something about stipulating just how many free lunches legislators could reasonably be allowed without being considered as being “in the pockets” of lobbyists. The number chosen is 12. That would be once a week for three months. To me that seems more than generous.
However, Rep. Brandon Vick, R-Vancouver, of the 18th Legislative District, cannot seem to vote on his own. He has to go to the Republicans to tell him how to vote. Has he no idea of his own? Getting Vick, a young and inexperienced candidate, voted into a highly Republican district could not have been a difficult challenge. As a member of the Ethics Committee, it concerns me that he has to ask someone else just what a legislator’s ethics should be. Actually, we should not have to tell legislators what their ethics should be. Surely we expect them to be ethical persons when we elect them.
