TOUTLE — A Cowlitz County sheriff’s spokesman says his agency doesn’t have any leads to explain who dumped 35 skinned, gutted and rotting reptiles in the southwest Washington woods near Toutle.

The Daily News of Longview reports that Chief Criminal Deputy Charlie Rosenzweig said Wednesday the investigation is open “in the sense that we would like to know why they were put out there and who put them out there.”

Toutle resident Shaylee Antila found the remains of snakes, lizards and crocodiles last Friday while walking her two dogs near her home. She says one snake skin was about 10 feet long.

Rosenzweig says deputies left the reptiles in the woods.
