Save the Date: Storm City Roller Girls, Quilt Show, Earth Day EcoFair

The Storm City Roller Girls go under the big top tonight with two circus-themed roller derby bouts. At 4 p.m. the men’s teams will face off as Portland’s Bridgetown Brawlers and Eastern Washington’s Wasteland Warriors compete. Vancouver’s Storm City All-Stars will take on the Rose City Wreckers in a bout of women’s roller derby at 6 p.m. at the Clark County Event Center at the Fairgrounds, 17402 N.E. Delfel Road, Ridgefield. Tickets are $15 to $18, free for ages 5 and younger. Parking is $6. www.stormcityrollergirls.com

The Clark County Quilters will wrap up the 40th annual Quilt Show from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today, with a multitude of quilts on display at the Vancouver Church of Christ, 9019 N.E. 86th St., Vancouver. Admission is $7, free for ages 12 and younger. www.clarkcountyquilters.org

Take in the “Signs of Spring” with Vancouver Symphony Orchestra’s latest chamber music concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Kiggins Theatre, 1011 Main St., Vancouver. The DTQ String Quartet will perform a composition by Antonín Dvorák that was composed on his summer vacation. Oregon Symphony’s principal cellist Nancy Ives and renowned pianist Cary Lewis will also perform a duet by Johannes Brahms. Science on Tap asks what junk is in your trunk during Thursday’s lecture. Sarah Schaack, professor of biology at Reed College, will speak about the world of genomes and the debate around so-called “junk DNA” starting at 7 p.m. April 16 at the Kiggins Theatre, 1011 Main St., Vancouver. The Clark Public Utilities StreamTeam will hosts its Earth Day EcoFair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 18. Held rain or shine at Salmon Creek Regional Park, 1112 N.E. 117th St., Vancouver, visitors can take on a life cycle obstacle course, meet birds of prey with the Audubon Society, learn about reptiles with Mr. Lizard, explore the Science Circus and talk about the world of insects with the Bug Chicks. The Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens, 115 South Pekin Road, Woodland, celebrates the beauty of lilacs in bloom, opening up Hulda’s gardens, Victorian-era home and farmhouse to visitors during Lilac Days. The Professional Writers Series finishes with Shawn Levy, who wrote the biography “De Niro: A Life,” along with other pop culture, film and sports articles for the New York Times. The Pearson Air Museum hosts a local Yuri’s Night World Space Party celebration, in honor of Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, the first person to orbit Earth.
