Parakeet gets in car at drive-thru

CORNELIUS, Ore. — An Oregon man who headed to a fast-food restaurant’s drive-thru for his lunch came home with a very friendly parakeet.

Now Bill Detrick hopes he can find the bird’s owner.

KATU-TV in Portland reported that Detrick says he was at a Taco Bell drive-thru on Thursday in Cornelius, Ore., when the bird landed on top of his car. His window was open, so he put his hand out and the bird hopped on him and crawled to his shoulder.

One restaurant worker told the station it just appeared as if the bird belonged to their customer.

Detrick took the bird home, perched on his shoulder. He bought it bird food and built it a cage. He says the bird “jumped right in” before he even had the roof on.

The man says he’s called local veterinarians and animal shelters to see if anyone reported a missing bird.
