After the “Batman” TV series went off the air in the ’60s, did Burt Ward ever act again?
Ward, who was Robin to Adam West’s Batman, has quite a few credits after the 1968 cancellation of “Batman,” according to the Internet Movie Database. Although credits may not be the right word for productions called “Beach Babes From Beyond,” “Assault of the Party Nerds: The Heavy Petting Detective” and “Virgin High.” He also wrote a memoir, “Boy Wonder: My Life in Tights,” about 20 years ago. But that title should tell you that “Batman” remains his major claim to fame.
The A.V. Club reported that Ward and West will reprise their roles (at least vocally) in an animated production in 2016, which, fans know, will also be the TV show’s 50th anniversary.
I am looking for a movie that I saw in the theater as a young child. It was called “The Steel Lady” and was a war movie about a group of GIs lost in the desert in World War II who uncover a partially buried Army tank. It was made around 1954. Could you possibly help me find out what movie channel has it, or, better still, if it is on DVD, where I could purchase it. That would be WONDERFUL!!!
Your memory of the plot is a little off, but it may be refreshed when you see the movie, which has been released on DVD. With a cast that includes Rod Cameron and Tab Hunter, it is available through sites including Amazon.com and Moviesunlimited.com.
In “The Menagerie,” a two-part episode on the original “Star Trek,” was that really Jeffrey Hunter playing the injured Captain Pike?
Fans of the fantasy series know that scenes from an early “Star Trek” pilot titled “The Cage” were later incorporated into the “Menagerie” story. “The Cage” had the Enterprise commanded by Christopher Pike, played by Jeffrey Hunter. When a second pilot was asked for, Hunter was not a part of it. (There have been different stories about why. Series creator Gene Roddenberry once told me that Hunter’s wife thought Hunter should be a movie star, and that the TV series would be bad for his career.)
Enter Captain James T. Kirk, played by William Shatner. In “The Menagerie,” Pike is played by two actors: Sean Kenney was a badly injured Pike, and Hunter played him in flashbacks taken from “The Cage.” You may also have seen a more recent incarnation of Pike played by Bruce Greenwood in two big-screen “Star Trek” movies starring Chris Pine as Kirk.
I was wondering if “Covert Affairs” is coming back for a sixth season.
The series starring Piper Perabo is done for now. The big problem, as Deadline.com reported, was money. “As is the case with older series, its production costs have gone up over the years.”
