PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The serial thief who stole wedding and engagement rings off a 92-year-old widow’s finger in a Northeast Portland assisted living center and pawned them for $100 will spend six months in jail.

The Oregonian reports that 48-year-old Theresa Reba Mozell White was given the jail time pus three years of probation Thursday as an incentive to turn things around.

The prosecutor asked for nearly four years in prison and White’s own defense attorney suggested a year in jail.

But the county judge ordered the light sentence and told White to change her lifestyle.

He said she could face as many as six years in prison if she is caught stealing again or doesn’t attend drug treatment.

Prosecutors said White has a 20-year criminal history that includes 25 misdemeanor convictions.
