Letter: Never too late to form resistance

The Columbian
Published: April 25, 2015, 5:00pm

With regard to Tesoro-Savage and the oil trains, are we as a thriving community going to allow corporate influence to ruin our way of life here in our beautiful environment? Do we, as citizens of Vancouver and Clark County, not have the right to defend our water and safety from the ravages of corporate oil greed? Do we not have the right to protect what is essential to maintaining our Columbia River way of life?

Activist Helen Slottje is a former corporate lawyer who has helped around 170 towns in New York adopt anti-fracking ordinances. She tells of townspeople now responding to the oil and gas companies with, “Are you kidding me? You think you can just come into my town and tell me you’re going to do whatever you want, wherever you want, whenever you want it, and I’m going to have no say? Who do you think you are?”

Who does Tesoro-Savage think they are? Who does the Port of Vancouver think they are?
