Prep highlights: King’s Way Christian baseball sweeps Castle Rock

The showdown for first place didn’t quite materialize on Tuesday.

The King’s Way Christian baseball team swept Castle Rock 10-0 and 13-5 to move back into first place in the Trico League.

Garrett Wellman and Thomas Martin both went 2 for 2 with two runs and two RBI in the opener. The Knights score six times in the first inning to take control.

Joisah Tully went 2 for 2 with a run and two RBI, and Joshua Tully was 2 for 3 with a double, run and three RBI in the nightcap.

The wins improved King’s Way Christian to 10-1 in league and clinched a district playoff berth for the Knights, who are in the first-year as a varsity program. Castle Rock slipped to 8-2.

Stars of the day

  • Teaghan Cowles, Columbia River softball, went 3 for 5 with a home run and seven RBI in a 25-7 win over Fort Vancouver.
  • Matt Young, Woodland track and field, won the 800 meters, 1,600 meters and pole vault in a double-dual meet with Hockinson and Hudson’s Bay.
  • Julia Stepper, Woodland track and field, won the 100 meters, 200 and long jump in a double dual at Hudson’s Bay.
  • Taylor Easterly, Fort Vancouver baseball, struck out nine in a five-inning no-hitter- as River beat Fort Vancouver 20-0.
  • Nick Skaar, Skyview baseball, went 3 for 4 with two runs and 3 RBI, including the go-ahead RBI in the top of the seventh in the Storm’s 10-9 win over Battle Ground.
  • n Reid Conlee, Camas baseball, went 2 for 3 with two doubles and two RBI as the Papermakers knocked off first-place Union 15-8.
  • Mitchell Pinney, Hockinson boys soccer, scored four goals as the Hawks beat Hudson’s Bay 5-0.
  • Will Warne, Mountain View boys soccer, had three goals in the Thunder’s 4-1 win over Evergreen.
  • Bennett Lehner, Camas boys soccer, scored all three goals in the Papermakers’ 3-0 win over Skyview.
