The historic Jane Weber Evergreen Arboretum will host a memorial for Jean Norwood on Saturday afternoon.

Norwood, a Vancouver city councilwoman in the 1960s and a key promoter of local trees and urban forestry — and many other causes, from historic preservation to women’s rights — would have been 96 on May 2. She died on Feb. 3. Plans were already underway to celebrate her birthday at the arboretum.

So Kelly Punteney, Norwood’s friend and the arboretum manager, has announced that the arboretum will host a memorial honoring Norwood’s life at 2 p.m. on May 2. The Jane Weber Evergreen Arboretum is at 9215 S.E. Evergreen Highway.
