LUCERNE — Several hundred people were evacuated near Lake Chelan in central Washington as a wildfire grew to more than 6 square miles overnight.

Fire officials said more than 350 staff and residents at the Lutheran retreat center Holden Village and workers at Holden Mine Remediation were evacuated as of Saturday. Officials said Holden Village is not threatened, but its only evacuation route was in danger.

The owner and guests of the Domke Lake Resort also were evacuated, and several structures were lost at that lake.

The Wolverine Fire started Wednesday from a lightning strike. Officials said helicopters are trying to slow the growth of several new spot fires with bucket drops.

The Pacific Crest Trail Detour is closed in the area and several campgrounds are closed until further notice.
