Daughter, mom accused of helping dispose of gun allegedly used in Spokane killing

Spokane — Police last week arrested two more people they say are connected to the killing of 17-year-old Ceasar Medina at Northwest Accessories on Monroe Street in May.

Cassandra L. Larson, 31, is accused of disposing of one of the guns allegedly used in the crime, and her mother, 57-year-old Ruth E. Ferguson, is accused of helping her.

Phone records show that Larson exchanged texts the day after the killing with her friend Vatsana Muongkhoth, who has been charged with murder along with Jeremiah Smith. One text from Larson said, “I moved those to my mom’s,” a presumed reference to the guns used in the crime, according to court documents.

At least one of the guns allegedly was stolen by Muongkhoth from her boyfriend.

A friend reported to investigators that after police interviewed Larson about the text message, Larson called her mother and told her to wrap the guns in a blanket and take them to the Shopko parking lot on South Regal Street, where someone would meet her and take them, according to court documents. Police say they found the car Ferguson had been driving in the Shopko parking lot and recovered a gun from inside along with ammunition and cocaine.

A previous domestic violence protection order is still in place that forbids Larson from contacting her mother.

Larson is facing charges of possession of a controlled substance and violation of a protection order. Her bond was set at $35,000 during a court appearance Friday. A judge ruled that there wasn’t enough probable cause to support a charge of possession of a stolen firearm.

Ferguson was arrested on a charge of possession of a controlled substance and conspiracy to commit first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm on Monday. She posted $20,000 bond Wednesday.
