An 87-year-old woman reported missing Thursday in the Sawtooth Berry Fields near Trout Lake was found in good condition Sunday morning about 2 miles from where she disappeared, according to the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office.

A fixed-wing aircraft assisting in the search spotted the woman, Wasco Fujiwara of The Dalles, Ore., who was sitting on a log and waving to the plane above, according to the sheriff’s office. She was about 2 miles southeast of where she had been seen last.

Fujiwara, who suffers from early-stage dementia, was evaluated by searchers and brought back by horseback, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

The woman disappeared at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday after picking huckleberries with her 57-year-old daughter, Lisa Fujiwara of Bend, Ore. The two women became separated.

More than 60 ground searchers from around the region participated in the search effort, as temperatures in the region reached triple digits on Thursday and Friday and the upper 90s on Saturday. Also assisting in the search were off-road vehicles, the fixed-wing aircraft, a King County helicopter equipped with infrared technology, and dog teams, Sheriff Dave Brown said in a news release.
