Election Day, at last, has arrived.

After the results from today’s primary are totaled, the field in five local races will be narrowed to the top two candidates, regardless of party.

Those races are for Clark County council chair and the District 2 seat, plus one seat each on the Vancouver City Council, the Port of Vancouver board and the Battle Ground school board.

Those top two candidates will go on to the general election Nov. 3, when voters will decide the winners, along with the winners of dozens of other local government offices.

As of Monday, voter turnout was hovering around 18.1 percent, with 45,504 of 250,707 ballots returned to the Clark County elections office. Clark County Auditor Greg Kimsey has predicted a turnout of 30 percent. To reach that, at least 29,708 voters will have to submit their ballots by 8 p.m. today.

Though thin, voter turnout in Clark County is ahead of statewide turnout, according to the Secretary of State’s Office. As of 12:30 p.m. Monday, 502,225 of 3.37 million voters statewide had returned ballots for an overall voter turnout of about 14.9 percent.

There’s still time to submit your ballot if you haven’t done so. You can deliver your ballot to one of 34 locations across Clark County today. For a full list of places, visit www.clark.wa.gov/elections or www.columbian.com/election.

Ballots also can be mailed but must bear a postmark from not later than today.

The first batch of results are expected about 8:30 p.m. today, followed by more results Wednesday afternoon. You can watch election coverage and results live on CVTV starting at 8:30 p.m. or visit www.columbian.com. You also can follow on Twitter with #ClarkElex for live coverage from Columbian reporters.
