Esther Short — Furry Friends raised $1,241 at its “Meow the Night Away” fundraiser July 25 at the Vancouver Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge.

The money raised will go to a new halfway home for kittens. Sandi Long, a board member with the nonprofit, wrote in an email that the group has raised more than $20,000 toward the new home, and is keeping their “eyes open for a commercial or industrial building with windows that is at least 2,000 square feet or larger.”

She added that the group’s biggest fundraiser of the year, a dinner and auction, is Sept. 19, and members are hopeful of doubling the amount raised so far.
