Vancouver — Registration is open for next month’s third annual St. Vincent de Paul Friends of the Poor Walk/Run in downtown Vancouver.

The 5-kilometer race begins 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Proto-Cathedral of St. James the Greater — the looming brick cathedral at 217 W. 12th St.

The race winds around the downtown area and runs along Officers Row. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. that day.

The race is free, but there is a $25 recommended donation. The money benefits the Vancouver, Brush Prairie and Camas conferences of St. Vincent de Paul, which provide food, clothing and housing assistance to those in need.

To sign up for the race, visit www.svdpusa.net/walk/1203. People may otherwise volunteer the day of the race.
