Southern California, Hawaii teams reach Junior League tournament final

Manhattan Beach, Pearl City teams to play for spot in W. Series

Pearl City and Manhattan Beach will play Wednesday at Propstra Stadium for a spot in the Junior League Baseball World Series.

The championship game of the Junior League Western Region Tournament will start at 5 p.m. The winner will advance to the Junior League World Series in Taylor, Mich.

Junior League is the Little League division for players ages 13-14.

In Tuesday’s semifinals, Southern California champion Manhattan Beach blanked Northern California champion Gilroy 14-0, and Hawaii champion Pearl City defeated Washington champion Selah 11-5.

A third-place game between Gilroy and Selah will be played at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Manhattan Beach 14, Gilroy 0 — Merrick Baldo pitched a four-hit shutout and was 4 for 5 at the plate as the Southern California champions beat the Northern California representative. Baldo hit three doubles and drove in four runs.

Dylan Davis had three hits including a triple and a double. He scored three times and had three RBI.

Manhattan Beach scored three runs in the top of the first innings and four in the second to take early command.

Pearl City 11, Selah 5 — Joey Casarez went 4 for 4 with two doubles and three RBI to lead the Hawai’I champions to victory. Chaeston Chong was 3 for 4 with three RBI and pitched into the seventh inning for Pearl City. Casarez and Chong each had hits in both the three-run third inning and the five-run fourth that broke open the game.
