An eight-run first inning sent Hazel Dell Metro on its way to a win on Monday at the Babe Ruth World Series for 14-year-olds in Pine Bluff, Ark.

Metro beat Seabrook, Ark, 16-1, in a game that ended in the fifth inning. Metro is 2-1 in pool play.

Liam Kerr had two hits and three RBI in the big first inning for HDM. Jackson Day had a two-run double, Alex Miller a two-run single and Sam Lauderdale a run-scoring single in the first inning.

“That was great,” HDM manager Scott Binder said. “Before the game, we told the guys this tournament hasn’t seen what our team is capable of from an offensive standpoint. To come out and put eight runs on the board was a good way to start.”

Kerr finished the day 4 for 4. He had two stolen bases and scored three runs.

Day and Isaiah Rupp each went 2 for 3. Leadoff hitter Lauderdale scored three runs, and Andrew Hensley hit a triple.

Lowell Dunmire pitched all five innings for Metro. He struck out seven, walked two and gave up four hits. He threw 50 of 79 pitches for strikes.

“Lowell was very efficient. He worked ahead in the count. His fastball, curveball and change-up were all working,” Binder said.

Metro continues pool play at 3 p.m. PDT Tuesday against the host team from Pine Bluff. Pine Bluff has lost all three of its games in pool play. Gainesville-Haymarket (Virginia) leads the pool at 3-0.
