The Vancouver Police Arson Unit and the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating after two vehicles were engulfed in flames early Sunday morning.

Several people called 911 at about 4 a.m. Sunday after hearing an explosion and seeing a vehicle on fire in the area of Northeast 37th Circle and Northeast 86th Avenue, Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said.

Police officers responded and were able to put out the blaze with fire extinguishers, she said.

Two minutes later, several people called 911 and reported hearing similar noises in the 3700 block of Northeast 87th Place, Kapp said.

Firefighters arrived and found a second vehicle fully involved in fire, Kapp said. The blaze was extinguished but the vehicle was a total loss, she said.

Kapp said that both incidents are being investigated as arson and that police and fire officials are working together in the case.
