If emergency preparedness has been on your mind lately, local officials have a fun way to help you out.

Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency is set to kick off its online social media game 30 Days, 30 Ways Preparedness Challenge on Sept. 1.

In its sixth year, the game lasts the entire month of September, which is National Preparedness Month, and gives players a daily challenge that deals with prepping for a number of natural disasters. Challenges are posted at 7 a.m. every day and participants can complete tasks by using Facebook, Twitter, email or commenting on the game’s blog.

This year’s game theme is “Don’t Wait. Communicate. Make your Emergency Plan Today.” The game, which first started in September 2010, has recorded more than 18,000 tasks from players in 44 states, one territory and 38 countries.

Tasks are intended to be short and participants can play for as many days as they choose. Submissions will be reviewed for creativity, relevance and popularity, and two grand prize winners will be selected in October.

CRESA’s goal with the game is for participants to share the preparedness information on social media to reach people who may not think about disaster preparedness.

Game rules can be found at www.30days30ways.com.
