Vancouver Mall — The Vancouver Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office received 20 electronic tablets worth more than $13,000 from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. The grant is for tablets, which will help the department better educate residents in fire prevention and improve fire marshals’ investigation reporting capabilities in the field. Representatives from the department received the grant on Aug. 14 in a presentation along with the Longview Fire Department, which received 10 sets of turnout gear, worth more than $19,000, to provide firefighters with safe uniforms during firefighting operations and life-threatening situations. Firehouse Subs started its public safety foundation in 2005 with a mission on providing funding, life-saving equipment and educational opportunities to first-responders and public safety organizations.
