Colbert’s first-week guest list includes Clooney, Bush, Schumer

The Columbian
Published:

Stephen Colbert has lined up an eclectic mix of guests for his first week as host of “Late Show,” with A-list movie stars, musicians, tech entrepreneurs and at least one presidential candidate.

As previosuly announced, Colbert’s premiere broadcast on Sept. 8 will feature actor/director/activist/husband-of-Amal George Clooney, and Republican presidential hopeful and slow-jammer of the news Jeb Bush. The episode will also feature a performance by bandleader Jon Batiste with as-yet-unnamed special guests.

Other big names scheduled for Colbert’s first week, announced Monday by CBS, include actress Scarlet Johansson, hip-hop artist Kendrick Lamar, comedian Amy Schumer and country star Toby Keith.

At “The Colbert Report,” the comedian favored scientists, inventors, historians and even the occasional radical nun over the usual roster of Hollywood starlets and action stars.

While a move to broadcast television will almost certainly require him to go for a more mainstream lineup, Colbert seems to be mixing up the usual formula by booking author Stephen King and two high-profile tech CEOs, Travis Kalanick of Uber and Elon Musk of Tesla Motors and SpaceX.

The complete guest lineup for “Late Show’s” debut week:

• Tuesday, Sept. 8: Clooney, Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush, musical performance by Jon Batiste and Stay Human with special guests.

• Wednesday, Sept. 9: Actress Scarlett Johansson, SpaceX and Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk, interview with and musical performance by Kendrick Lamar.

• Thursday, Sept. 10: Uber CEO Travis Kalanick, musical performance by Toby Keith.

• Friday, Sept. 11: Comedian Amy Schumer, author Stephen King, interview with and musical performance by Troubled Waters.
