Letter: Block attempt to seat Pike in chair

The Columbian
Published: August 27, 2015, 5:00pm

I have read in The Columbian that there will be a write-in campaign to possibly elect Rep. Liz Pike, R-Camas, as chair of the Clark County council. This is an attempt by Republican sore losers to take complete control of the council. We’ve already seen how that has worked out so far.

We could end up with five Republican members. This is a horrible idea. Clark County millionaires are licking their chops over this possibility. Unchecked development will be the new norm. Proper allocation of taxpayer funds from transportation improvements will be left on the back burner to pay for this.

Pike, Councilor David Madore, Sen. Don Benton, Councilor Tom Mielke, former Rep. Monica Stonier (the lone Democrat), and U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler teamed up to sabotage a new bridge over light rail, wasting $160 million in planning and continuing horrible commuter traffic congestion for at least the next decade.

It showed very, very poor representation by all. New businesses that need transportation to ship their products will say “no” to locating in Clark County for a very long time. The Columbia River Crossing flaws could have been fixed but they just killed the whole thing — a stupid act.
