Letter: Loss can’t be measured in dollars

Regarding the Aug. 23 editorial “Give public say on fireworks: Vancouver City Council should bring contentious issue before the voters,” first of all, unless the county changes their rules, it will make no difference. It will just bring all the chaos out here. I live in Salmon Creek and I will tell you how horrific these fireworks have become.

The estimated property loss due to fireworks this year is valued at $575,000. I want you to add this figure to your number. I have a $2,200 bill at Legacy for injuries sustained in trying to calm and care for my dog for nearly six hours of hell. I lost that pedigree dog that we had saved for five years to purchase at $6,500. Not only did he die, but we had another bill at the emergency clinic to try and save him for $1,200. So add our total of $9,900 to your figures. I am also sure that there are several others out here with the same story.
