Letter: Poverty rate alarming

The Columbian
Published:

I am amazed that the poverty rate at Evergreen Public Schools is 47.1 percent and Vancouver Public Schools is 51.6 percent. I know that every year a lot of kids will drop out of these high schools to become part of the growing low-income population that will in turn send their kids to these schools. You’ll be asked to help these students. An Aug. 21 story reported “Stuffing the bus: School supplies collected for needy Evergreen, Vancouver students.” Our elected politicians aren’t concerned. Their focus is on the voters whose kids and grandkids are going to college.

What kind of job can you get with a high school diploma? What kind of job can you get without a high school diploma?
