A Clark County sheriff’s deputy appeared in District Court on Monday to answer an allegation that he assaulted his teenage daughter during a struggle over a cellphone, according to court records.

Timothy E. Boardman, 44, of Vancouver faces an allegation of fourth-degree assault-domestic violence stemming from the Nov. 25 incident at their home.

Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Fred Neiman said Monday night that Boardman, who’s been with the sheriff’s office for 17 years, has been placed on paid administrative leave because of his arrest. The sheriff’s office has also opened an internal investigation into the incident, he said.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, Boardman grabbed the girl and told her to give him his cellphone. When the girl said she didn’t have it, he threw her down. She struck her arm on the footboard of a bed, causing abrasions and redness.

Court records show Boardman posted a $2,500 bond after he was arrested.

He was ordered not to have contact with the girl, records show.

Fourth-degree assault is a gross misdemeanor with a penalty of up to a year in jail.
